Days for Girls

Days for Girls is still hard at work sending supplies and providing education around the world. Most recent projects have supported girls/young women in St. Lucia, Haiti and Ethiopia. They are always looking for the following items:

  • girls briefs – sizes 10, 12 and 14
  • large Ziploc freezer bags (must be Ziploc brand and freezer specific)
  • washcloths
  • procion dyes (dark colours)
  • soaps (hotel-sized, still in original wrapper)
  • 100% quilter’s cotton (dark patterns) – as small as 5 x 5 inches
  • 100% cotton flannel (dark colours/patterns) – as small as 6 x 9 inches
  • poly-cotton (bright, fun patterns) – at least 12 x 12 inches
  • 100% polyester thread (dark colours)
We’ll also have new kits in the updated bag size available at the February meeting. Thanks to all for your continued support !

December 2017 Guild Meeting

A delicious potluck, QUILT-O, community outreach, the Medallion Skill builder project and Show n Tell were the highlights of our Christmas meeting.

Sixty-three Quilts of Comfort, numerous hats, scarves, pillow cases, Santa Sacks and Stockings were donated to My Sisters Place.  Also, proceeds from our quilt raffle were presented to MSP and Matthew’s House, each receiving a cheque for $500.

The lucky winner of our beautiful quilt raffle was Carina Randell from Everett!  Congratulations Carina!

Wishing all our members and their families a safe and joyous festive season.

We are an industrious group! I thought it important to let you know what we collected at our Tuesday guild meeting toward Community Outreach:

– 41 stockings, 6 gift sacks and 2 ornaments…we now have 76 stockings in total
– 24 completed Quilts of Comfort
– 16 quilt tops
– 7 quilts for binding
– 2 coin strips
– 100+ DFGs liners, 44 bags, 16 panties, 1 ziploc box and toiletries

Thank you very much for your generosity…in skill, resources and time! 😆👍🏼😆🎉

A reminder from Donna about DFGs bags…

Anyone who has taken a Days for Girls bag kit – please be careful sewing the side seams. Because they were cut from the old dimensions, the side seams need to be sewn with a 1/4″ seam – so that the bags finish at minimum 10 1/2″ wide. This is now the minimum size required. If the bags have turned out smaller, Days for Girls still accept them, but will set them aside for use in shelters, as cosmetic bags, etc.

Kits going forward will be cut at the new dimensions, so shouldn’t be a problem. Thanks to everyone who’s worked on this project !
Looking forward to our December presentations of our combined efforts.

Sit n Sew Oct 14

Another well attended Sit n Sew was held October 14 with 19 participants and a visitor who brought more three quilt tops.  An industrious group enjoyed  socializing, sewing and nibblies.  The following items were done:
3 fleece blankets
9 tops
3 completed quilts of comfort
13 Christmas stockings
Assorted personal projects
The next Sit n Sew will be in the Spring of 2018. We will post the date once it has been confirmed.
Thanks to everyone for their participation, and help with set up and clean up.
